126 accidents claim 19 lives

MUSCAT — The Royal Oman Police (ROP) reported death of 19 people and injuries to 143 others in 126 traffic accidents during June 23-29 in different governorates. Al Dakhiliyah and Al Wusta recorded the largest number with four deaths each, three in the Governorate of Muscat, two each in South Al Sharqiyah and South Al Batinah, one death each in Dhofar, Al Buraimi, North Al Sharqiyah and North Al Batinah.
Collision between vehicles was the most common cause of accidents that occurred during the same period as they stood at 65 accidents, 30 collisions with a stationary object, 16 run-over accidents and 15 roll-over accidents. Among the major accidents was the collision between two vehicles that took place on Monday last on the highway in the Wilayat of Haima, which led to the death of three persons.
ROP has urged all road users to abide by traffic rules and laws, exercise caution while using the road, observe the speed-limit and avoid wrong overtaking. — ONA
