3 months prison for selling counterfeit mobile phones

By A Staff Reporter — MUSCAT — Al Seeb Primary Court has issued a ruling against a defendant accused of selling counterfeit mobile phones. The court sentenced the defendant to a three-month in prison and a fine of RO 100, in addition to seizing the products. Officials at the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) have inspected the shop where the accused was selling counterfeit mobile phones deceiving customers by promoting these mobile phones as if they were original and have seized 78 counterfeit mobile phones of different brands.

The Consumer Protection Law requires seller to provide customer with correct and true information and data about the products or services offered. Selling products without providing consumers with the correct information and data is a criminal offence by Article 21 of the Consumer Protection Law.
