Tight security for world handball games

MUSCAT — Lt Col Ibrahim bin Said al Shukaili, Member of the Main Committee of the World Beach Handball Championships, to be hosted by the Sultanate from tomorrow, said that the Royal Oman Police (ROP) is fully mobilised for the launch of the championships in co-operation with the Ministry of Sports Affairs. “The Directorate-General of Operations has made all necessary arrangements and drafted security and safety specifications required for the smooth conduct of the games to be held at 1341585109616970100 the Sports City in Al Musannah,” said Lt Col Al Shukaili.

He pointed out that the security plan involves all formations of the ROP which will be represented at the Sports City. Besides safety and security matters, the police personnel will be deployed at all venues to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic and attend to the needs of the public, he added. “The security plan includes policemen maintaining a constant vigil over the Sports City, with the patrol teams including 1341596289739004700 footmen and mounted forces keeping an eye on gates and the entry and the exit of masses, while at the same time liaising with government and private parties involved to ensure the success of the championships,” said Lt Col Al Shukaili.

He added that the ROP’s Coast Guards, with an added force of speed boats, will patrol the sea area alongside the game venues and the residences of the participating teams. Lt Col Al Shukaili said that crackers are among the items banned into the games venues, but the list of banned items also include carbonated drinks or drinks in glass bottles, lighters, sticks, sharp tools, flares and laser lights, whistles or horns and clothes carrying vulgar phrases or pictures.
