In the traffic awareness stall at Salalah Tourism Festival I heard a Gulf citizen hailing the ROP efforts in raising traffic awareness. The ROP also receives commendations from wide segments of citizens and residents for its efforts in spreading security all across the Sultanate. ROP personnel are working in two locations at the Municipality Recreation Centre distributing brochures and leaflets to the visitors.
One of the two stalls is equipped with 21 computers containing traffic awareness programmes, including programmes dedicated for raising the children’s traffic awareness and providing them with advises and instructions on how to cross roads safely. There is also the video library which presents various awareness programmes and a video depicting a Royal address by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos on traffic safety made during a Royal tour.
The ROP stall also contain statistics of road accidents, traffic rules, lists of traffic violations, as well as anthems of gratitude to the ROP traffic police for their enormous efforts in keeping the roads safe.
The other ROP stall at the Municipality Recreation Centre has a lecture hall a giant TV screen showing videos of road accidents.
The Directorate General for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances at the Royal Oman Police (ROP) is also present at this year’s Salalah Tourism Festival, putting in commendable efforts to raise the visitors’ awareness of the types of drugs and the risks of drug addiction. Towards this aim they are distributing brochures and executing programmes aimed at tackling drug abuse and dealings.
The ROP’s stalls are also delivering services such as vehicles registration and payment of violation tickets. The visitors to the ROP’s stalls are getting acquainted with the methods used by the Civil Defence personnel in emergencies and rescue operations. The visitors have the chance of being familiarised with the sacrifices made by the maritime rescue teams in saving the people’s lives.
These stalls are providing the visitors with something that the majority of them haven’t already known, thereby benefiting a large segment of visitors and giving them rarely-found information which is why many visitors are appreciative of this effort.
