Aid for Syrian peopleSat, 14 July 2012
![]() By Jumaa al Ruqaishi — MUSCAT — Oman Charitable Organisation (OCO) announced the collection of donations for the brethren in Syria. OCO hailed the co-operation of Omani youth in the field of relief aid and called upon citizens and residents to help ease the suffering of Syrians by communicating with social development departments concerned. OCO Chairman Ali bin Ibrahim al Raisi said that the first consignment of relief aid from the Sultanate will reach Syria in the next few days through land and through the airports of neighbouring countries. Al Raisi pointed out that the aim of the campaign is the Syrian families which are highly in need of assistance in cash and kind. Al Raisi pointed out that the second phase of the relief aid campaign is being crippled by lack of proper contact with the Syrian charity organisations due to the escalating level of the crisis in that country. Al Raisi said that OCO will try to work in co-operation with the Red Cross due to the lack of an Arab charity organisation to manage the affairs. So far, cash assistance worth RO 100,000 has been collected, he added. Meanwhile, OCO has extended its “Donation for Syria” campaign till July 31 in view of very encouraging public response. The month-long campaign, which continues to evoke a very good response, was supposed to come to an end on June 30. But it has been extend for another month because much more needs to be done given the daily news of carnage by armed gangs. “The collection of donation is continuing and the OCO team is all set to arrange food, non-food and medical assistance for refugees inside Syria after July”, Al Raisi said. |
