ROP foils smuggling bidsSat, 04 August 2012
MUSCAT — The Royal Oman Police (ROP) arrested a man of Asian nationality who tried to smuggle 85 capsules into the Sultanate via Muscat International Airport. The ROP personnel at the airport noticed that the man looked suspicious and confused upon his arrival at the airport from an Asian destination. The man was transferred to the Police Hospital where an X-ray scan showed that the man had been swallowing capsules, which turned out to be filled with narcotics. Scores of such smugglers have been arrested since the beginning of this year. Meanwhile, the ROP Customs Department personnel at Wadi al Jizzi checkpoint foiled the smuggling of an amount of firecrackers in the vehicle of two men arriving from a nearby country. Due to the approach of Eid and the probability of attempts to import firecrackers, a decision was recently issued to arrest any person found to be in possession of this type of material known as Al Fattak. No bail would be allowed till a verdict is issued, the authorities concerned were told. The perpetrators may get a jail term not more than three years and be ordered to pay a fine not more than RO 3,000 or both penalties. |
