KARACHI — The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) of Pakistan yesterday notified the formation of Directorate-General of Transit Trade to monitor transportation of Afghan transit trade and supply to Nato and ISAF forces in Afghanistan, according to a notification issued by the revenue body. The directorate will start functioning from October 1, it said.
Customs officials said that the directorate of transit trade had been formed to effectively monitor the supplies to Afghanistan under the treaty and supplies to allied forces in Afghanistan. The transit trade has become a major source of smuggling into and from Pakistan,” a Customs officer said, adding that the examination of goods would help reduce illegal trade and increase duty and taxes.
