Preparations on for mass Eid prayers

By Kabeer Yousuf — MUSCAT — With Eid al Fitr round the corner, various masjids and Eid-Garh co-ordinators across the country are in the final round of preparations for the Eid mass prayers. The capital city and the outskirts, the village pathways along with interior roads will resonate with the Takbir (recital of the oneness and uniqueness of Allah) and witness children and elders moving in awe and joy of Eid al Fitr, distributing ‘Halawa’ (sweets) from 6 am as the prayers are scheduled to start from early morning till 9 am.
The mass prayers at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque will be led by His Eminence Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad al Khalili, Grand Mufti. In Muscat, one of the largest congregations is Muscat Eid Garh at the Al Quzaiqi Ground in Ghala which is slated to begin at 6.40 am. Organised by the Solidarity Youth Movement, a renowned scholar Shihabuddin Hamza will lead the prayers. A separate area for women and children is also being arranged, according to V M Said Mohammed, Convenor of the Organising Committee.
In Sohar, a massive Eid Garh is arranged for the first time and will be led by ace Islamic scholar M M Akber at 7 am at the Sohar Sports Club Ground, according to Mujeeb Kadalundi, one of the organisers of the same. In Wadi Kabir at the Ibn Khaldoon Madrasa, Abdul Karim Madani will lead the prayers at 6.30 am while in Suwaiq prayers will start at 7.30 am.
The Seeb Eid prayers will be led by Shemeer Chandrappinni at 6.45 am at the Seeb Sports Club Ground near the Badr Samaa Al Khoud but the venue for mass prayers in Salalah is not yet fixed in view of the change of the same and the time and place will be announced in due course, according to the organisers. Women will be provided with separate area for prayers at all the venues.
