National Youth Committee launched

MUSCAT — The National Committee for Youths, established under Royal Decree 117/2011, was launched at the Majlis Addawla yesterday under the auspices of Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, Chairman of the Majlis Addawla. Al Mantheri said in a speech on the occasion that the youth sector has been the focus of attention in various national development programmes. He pointed out that, following the Royal attention accorded by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the youth sector has been considered one of the basic pillars of domestic development.

The Chairman of the National Committee for Youths, Dr Hamad bin Hamoud al Ghafri, underscored the significance of the youth sector which, he said, is the driving force in any society and the mainstay of the future. Youth, said Dr Hamad, is the source of energy, renovation, productivity, growth and prosperity of every nation. Dr Hamad expressed the view that the wealth of a nations is not measured by natural and material resources but, rather, by the extent to which focus and care is accorded to the development of youths.

Then, the committee proceeded with its initial tasks. Article 5 of Royal Decree No 117/2011 determines the selection of members of the Committee and the designation of the panel’s Chairman and deputy Chairman as per a decision of the Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court. — ONA
