By Hasan Kamoonpuri - MUSCAT — Ibra College of Technology (ICT) recently organised a very successful Inter-Collegiate Quiz Competition as part of its celebrations to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the blessed Omani Renaissance march. The competition was inaugurated by Dr Nabil al Bizreh, the College Dean held on the ICT campus. Dr Bizreh emphasised the need for more such competitions to enhance and update the knowledge of the student community. He also stressed that such competitions are conducted not only for winning but to provide an avenue for students from across the Sultanate to interact and share experiences which would foster their development.
Fatma al Harthy, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, welcomed participants to the gathering. “We take this programme as an avenue for showing our happiness and gratitude to our beloved leader His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. Through this quiz competition, we are trying to understand and applaud an array of milestones achieved in the development and growth of the country during the past 40 glorious years,” she said.
The quiz competition, titled Insights of Oman, attracted a large number of colleges and universities from across the Sultanate. Apart from the hosts, other participating institutions included Nizwa University, Sohar University, the College of Banking and Financial Studies, Waljat College, the Colleges of Applied Sciences from Ibri and Sur, as well as the Colleges of Technology from Musannah, Ibri, Shinas and Salalah.
Participation in such large numbers made it a memorable, competitive and informative gathering for the student and teaching fraternity of the Sultanate. The quiz master, Vaseem Hashim, mesmerised the audience and kept participants and audience on their toes with his probing and thought-provoking questions on diverse aspects encompassing the Sultanate’s growth in the 40 glorious years of its blessed Renaissance march.
The competition was divided into three preliminary stages from which the five top teams qualified for the final stage. Both the preliminaries and the final stage were studded with an array of verbal and visual questions. All the rounds explored the students’ knowledge, which led to a nail-biting finish, with Ibra College of Technology sharing the top honours with 1st runners up, the College of Banking and Financial Studies and 2nd Runners up, Ibri College of Technology. The teams were handed over the prizes and certificates by the College Dean Dr Nabeel al Bizreh while Abdul Jaleel, the Head of Business Studies at Ibra College, delivered the vote of thanks.
