Royal Court Affairs strategic thinking programme to begin

MUSCAT — Lt Gen Sultan bin Mohammed al Nuomani, Secretary General of the Royal Court Affairs, said that, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Omani Renaissance led by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, 40 local training programmes will be implemented in 2010 to meet the actual needs of the Royal Court Affairs' units. In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) after presiding over the launching of a programme entitled “Strategic thinking and planning programme”, Lt Gen al Nuomani said that the programme will benefit personnel of government departments.

He added that the programme, being held at Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, will cover various organisational, administrative, financial, and future planning issues. Khalid bin Said al Jaradi, Director General of Planning and Human Resources Development at the Royal Court Affairs, said that His Majesty Sultan Qaboos has accorded great attention to the development of Omani people’s skills since his accession to the throne.

He reiterated that His Majesty the Sultan’s speeches emphasise on the importance of developing human resources, quoting His Majesty as saying “Seeking knowledge is not a luxury but rather a duty.” Al Jaradi said that the Royal Court Affairs aspires to become an authority proper planning. The five-day programme aims at enabling participants to prepare a draft strategic plan for the Royal Court Affairs, a guideline that can be used as a reference by other government units while preparing their strategic plans.

The programme addresses heads of the Royal Court Affairs units and those in charge of developing strategic plans in other government units. The training includes group discussions, study cases from the work of the Royal Court Affairs, lectures, exercises, role play, brainstorming and display of international successes and failures in the field of strategic planning.

Units from the Diwan of the Royal Court, the Civil Service Ministry, the Finance Ministry, the Information Ministry and the Manpower Ministry are also taking part in the programme. The lecturer at the programme is Dr Ibrahim Nadhmi Mohammed Mansi, teacher of administrative information systems at Al Israa University in Jordan. — ONA
