Oman beach spikers head for Indonesia

MUSCAT — A four-member Oman beach volleyball team left for Indonesia yesterday to take part in the Asian Volleyball Confederation's Asian Beach Tour from April 21 to 24. Oman team's trip to Indonesian island of Nongsa Batam comes as part of a series of camps and tournaments participation scheduled by the Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) in the run-up to the Asian Beach Games to be hosted by the Sultanate in December this year.

The OVA has picked four players to represent two Omani teams at the Indonesian leg of the Asian Tour. Oman 'A' will be represented by Badr al Shubhi and Khalifa al Jabri while 'B' will comprise Haitham al Shukairi and Ahmed al Hosni. It may be mentioned that Badr and Khalifa are the GCC champs while Haitham and Ahmed are the reigning Arab champions. Besides the coach, the team will be accompanied by team manager Hassan al Balushi.

After their participation in the Indonesian event, the team will move to Thailand for a brief training-cum-conditioning camp from April 25 to 30. The OVA has also chalked out plans for the two teams participation in a couple of FIVB Swatch World Beach Volleyball Tour. The first participation will be in Shanghai where the Chinese leg of the World Tour will take place from May 2 to 9. The Omanis squads will also travel to Poland in the latter part of May for another round of Swatch World Beach Tour.
