Economic pact with Petersburg stressed

MUSCAT — Khalil bin Abdullah al Khonji, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) received here yesterday a delegation from the US city of Petersburg headed by Simin Yazdgerdi Curtis, Sultanate’s Honorary Consul to the US state of Pennsylvania and membership of US businessmen in economic and trade fields, such as industry, energy, mining, oil and petrochemical industries, information technology (IT), healthcare, medical services, culture and education, training and rehabilitation.
During the meeting, Al Khonji stressed the need for further co-operation, as well as dialogue and interaction between business and investment sectors in the Sultanate and Petersburg city, besides the need for more joint economic activities that avail an opportunity to familiarise with available investment opportunities.
He pointed out that the Sultanate is a promising country in terms of investment opportunities in all economic sectors as it avails various investment incentives for local and foreign investment.
Simin Curtis, Sultanate’s Honorary Consul to the US state of Pennsylvania and head of the delegation pointed out that the visit comes within the framework of continuing to enhance efforts of co-operation that started since 2009 to set up a bigger co-operation with the Sultanate in various fields, in addition to familiarising with possible investment opportunities, besides discussing possible mechanisms and means of co-operation and coordination with OCCI.
The meeting discussed partnership fields available in various sectors particularly in education, training, culture, oil and petrochemical industries fields, as well as organising museums.
The meeting also discussed co-operation in food industries especially those related to contributing in achieving food security through activating food industries and their associated activities.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of activating the Omani-US Business Council and activating its role, besides promoting for investment opportunities, setting up joint ventures, in addition to discussing challenges that might face the development of business and projects between the Omani and US private sectors. — ONA
