Gesture reflects concern for families - MUSCAT — On the occasion of the anniversary of Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos has issued Royal amnesty in favour of 78 prisoners who were convicted for various cases. The 78 inmates who benefited from the Royal pardon included 48 Omanis and 30 from different nationalities.
The Royal pardon comes as a noble gesture from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos considering the social conditions of the inmates’ families. Similar Royal gestures were made by His Majesty the Sultan on various religious and national occasions, including Royal pardon extended to 184 Omanis and 114 expatriate prisoners on the occasion of the Sultanate’s 40th National Day and Eid al Adha in 2010.
His Majesty the Sultan has issued also Royal amnesty to 156 prison inmates who were convicted in various types of cases on the occasion of Eid al Adha and the Sultanate’s celebrations of the 41st National Day in 2011. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs will today (Saturday) hold a ceremony at Al Madina Amphitheatre at Qurum Natural Park in celebration of the Prophet’s Birthday.
The programme, to be presided over by Majlis Addawla member Zahir bin Abdullah al Abri, will include a reading of the Holy Quran, poems in praise of the virtues of Prophet Mohammed and some religious songs. — ONA
