By Bader al Kiyumi — MUSCAT — The seminar on Islamic banking, best practices and development which aims to provide a true and transparent banking experience to all the customers kicked off yesterday at the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) premises.
The seminar which was organised by Ahlibank in collaboration with the SQU — Commerce and Economic College, was presided over by Shaikh Ahmed bin Saud al Siyabi, Secretary-General of the Ifta'a Office.
Renowned Sharia scholars and experts on Islamic banking and finance participated in the seminar.
The speakers included Dr Ali Muheldin al Quradaghi, Chairman, Sharia Supervisory Board of Al Hilal Islamic Banking Services, Ahlibank Oman who also was the Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars; Prof Humayon Dar, Chairman and CEO of Edbiz Consulting Limited, a London-based Islamic Financial Consultancy Firm; Shaikh Aflah al Khalili, Member, Sharia Supervisory Board of Al Hilal Islamic Banking Services, Ahlibank Oman and the Head of Research and Studies at the Institute of Fatwa in the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs and Dr Nasser al Mawali, Assistant Professor of Economics, Sultan Qaboos University.
The list of attendees was equally impressive and included students, dignitaries and other prominent citizens interested in learning about the best practices and developments in the field of Islamic Banking.
In his opening remarks Dr Ali al Quradaghi reiterated the commitment of Al Hilal Islamic banking to provide innovative products and services to all ahlibank customers, in compliance with the Sharia laws.
Shaikh Aflah pointed out that ahlibank owns a unique distinction and exposure of Islamic banking and finance which it obtains through the presence of its strategic partner Ahliunited Bank with its presence in several countries.
“Al Hilal Islamic banking will provide Sharia compliant products and services and in no way enters into any Sharia repugnant and interest-based transaction. We are truly committed to truth and transparency in banking”, he said.
Dr Humayon also expressed his happiness on being a part of this special event and appreciated the efforts of ahlibank in promoting Islamic banking services among the youth in the Sultanate and the region as a whole. Dr Nasser spoke about reality and myths surrounding Islamic banking.
