Wadi Adai-Amerat road opens

Tue, 24 April 2012

By Kabeer Yousuf — MUSCAT — The 8-km-long Wadi Adai-Amerat Road, which was opened yesterday, will put an end to travel woes of motorists to a great extent. The construction of the road which stretches from the Wadi Adai intersection to Amerat roundabout will considerably provide convenience to the residents of the Wilayat of Amerat, and will ease the flow of traffic. This road will be a vital feature in the expansion plans for the wilayat which has been witnessing rapid growth.

The highly anticipated road with three lanes on both sides was constructed as per the latest technical specifications. The construction took much more time than expected owing to unexpected hindrances. “The newly-opened road will improve economic, commercial and tourism activities in the wilayats which are part of the road specifically the Wilayat of Amerat," Abdullah bin Mohammed al Saadi, General Manager of Roads at Muscat Municipality, said, adding that this will reduce traffic jam considerably during peak hours.

The road which is made possible through strenuous tasks of breaking mountain ranges and solidifying and deep valleys lying in this area, is expected to serve as a lifeline to Wadi Adai, Amerat, Quriyat and Sur areas. “A number of high mountains had to be cut to make way for this 8-km-long road where construction was a big challenge. And there were time-consuming negotiations with the owners of the properties that hindered the construction process, not to forget the rain and the consequent flooding of 1335198067005016800 the wadis which also delayed the process," Al Saadi said.

“By and large, even public services were affected due to the delay in the project and getting them back on track, making diversions and ensuring safety required in co-ordination with different departments were hectic tasks during the construction process. But the municipality overcame all these challenges so that the road could be completed on time," Al Saadi further said.
This landmark road stretch also has yet another feather in its crown. A bridge of 180 meters length and 50.5 meters height built as big challenge stands high and mighty at around 3 km from the Wadi Adai roundabout. This is said to be the longest bridge over wadis in the Sultanate.
