Amerat dam opens today

MUSCAT — The Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources today celebrates the inauguration of flood protection dam at Al Amerat Heights, built on Royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. The ceremony will be held under the auspices of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat. The construction of the dam began after the adverse weather conditions in the Sultanate in June 2007 to protect Al Amerat and Al Qurum Commercial areas from floods. The dam, built at a cost of RO 29 million, has a storage capacity of the dam is 22 million cubic metres and is part of the wider dam network which comprises of six dams on Wadi Adai and its tributaries which will be built in the future at different locations. — ONA
