Scrap Basic Education system

Mon, 30 April 2012

By Issa al Kharousi — MUSCAT — Some members of the Majlis Ash’shura demanded Education Minister Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah to scrap the Basic Education system and revert back to the system of Elementary, Preparatory and Secondary Education that prevailed earlier. The members called for the introduction of tangible changes that will improve the process of education in the Sultanate. The Majlis members also demanded the disclosure of those who caused the leaking of the science subject’s test paper during the recent General Education Diploma examinations. They noted that, due to the disruption caused by the leak prompting change of the original test paper, the alternative test paper carried 8 similar questions. Other members asked the minister to consider having nurseries (baby-feeding rooms) in schools rather than allocating one hour for breast-feeding which, they said, disrupts the daily teaching programme.
