MUSCAT — New improvements are soon to be experienced, as a new project will soon be implemented at the Hatta crossing border between Oman and Dubai once the project becomes operational.
UAE exhibitors at the Comex exhibition have on display a new electronic gate system that will make travelling across UAE and Oman land borders easier.
The new immigration system is being implemented by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs — Dubai.
Project Aabar will allow easy entry and exit through the land borders of the Oman-UAE border.
Aabar card holders will be able to cross borders sitting inside their vehicles. The new system will work on capturing passengers’ information by radio frequency identification, through scanning special e-cards used by the passengers while they are sitting in their vehicles.
The system will function in several steps.
First, Aabar card holders will enter a designated area where a screen is displayed to the travellers. Then, card holders will scan his/her card through a card reader machine, so that travellers’ details will be sent to the emigration official. Then, the travellers’ immigration details will be forwarded to the officer at the checkpoint, who will verify that the details of the card holders and the passengers are same.
Project Aaber is hoping to eliminate the long waiting lanes at the crossing border as well as to speed up passport and immigration procedures.
It is also a step towards giving passengers more convenience during crossing borders, emphasising that passengers won’t have to get out of their cars.
