Maintaining the balance between the body and soul

Wed, 16 May 2012

OUTLOOK — By Fatima Al Zadjaliya — They say that the human being has a soul and a body and they both complement each other. This relationship between the body and soul must be balanced to enable an individual to grow gracefully into a sound person. The body has been given its senses to enable it to perform its duties and it cannot continue living a proper life without them.
Since the beginning, the requests of the body are fulfilled by the adequate quantity of water, food and rest which provides one with the necessary elements to enable the body to grow. One must deal with these elements with a sense of moderation and in the required suitable quantities. It is vital to stay away from gluttony and other excesses that can result in negative impacts like diseases.
Some of us live to eat and some eat to live. If the human body has been placed on this earth merely to enjoy the types of food and physical recreation with total lack of wisdom of the mind and culture, it can be placed in the rank of animals. In this case the material things that we indulge in will overcome the principles and values in our life.
In a world full of famine in some parts, is it correct that we live to full our stomach without thinking of others. If we have not seen these starving people in our country, we just have to turn to one of the news channels to see the pain and suffering of the people around the world.
If we indulge in excess intake of food we have to face the consequences too. The excess food can change into fats and harmful substances that could hurt the body and in turn lead to a negative influence that can generate illnesses. On the other hand, the correct nutrition of the mind generates new horizons of humanitarian highness that keeps on all the way long.
The body and soul are part and parcel of our existence. To build a strong body that is able to survive and communicate with the different interactions of life, one needs a strong soul and a positive way of thinking to guide one to beautiful things in life.
