MUSCAT — The all-new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu was unveiled in Oman by General Motors & OTE Group recently. The launch was presided over by Markus Leithe, Regional Manager, General Motors Middle East Operations, Sajed Sbeih, Sales Business Manager Oman, General Motors Middle East Operations and Ajay Chopra, Managing Director, OTE Group. The new Malibu is Chevrolet’s first global midsize sedan. It has been designed and engineered to meet the needs of customers all around the world.
“With expressive styling, a comfortable cabin, high levels of content and features, interior craftsmanship, outstanding ride and handling, and top-notch safety, Chevrolet Malibu will exceed customers’ expectations and also be a rival to high-end sedans”, said Markus Leithe.
“OTE Group is proud to be associated with the global automotive giant and has constantly strived to provide its customers quality customer care and best in-class ownership experience which helps us build on the goodwill and contribute to the propagation and growth of Chevrolet in Oman”, commented Ajay Chopra.
Chevrolet 1337082939557849100 Malibu is the auto industry’s longest-running midsize nameplate, spanning 35 years and eight generations. Chevrolet has produced more than 8.5 million Malibus in the United States since its debut in 1964.
Benefiting from continuous refinement of an award-winning global architecture, GM engineers tested, tuned and calibrated the new Malibu on rural roads, highways and freeways, and at GM’s validation facilities worldwide, including the Middle East region. In total, GM engineers have driven one million miles of on-road development testing across six different continents.
This will ensure that the Chevrolet’s global midsize sedan will meet the high customers’ expectations of one of the largest and most competitive segment in the Middle East markets.
The exterior design of the all-new Malibu carries DNA from its sister vehicles, the Camaro and Corvette, to bring a sporty sensibility to the family sedan segment. A wide stance, broad shoulders enabled by best-in-class width of 1,855 mm, and an integrated rear spoiler give the new Malibu an athletic posture and 1337082939467848800 assertive appearance. The new Malibu has a 114 mm shorter wheelbase and 1,574 mm front and rear tracks that are more than 51 mm wider than the model it replaces.
Other exterior design cues include Chevrolet’s dual-port grille, projector HID headlamps, larger Chevrolet bow-tie badges front and rear, and new Camaro-inspired dual-element taillamps. The look is complemented by a range of large 16, 17 and 18-inch wheels. The new Malibu offers nearly 113 L of additional interior volume, along with more shoulder and hip room than previous models and more usable trunk. It offers the quietest ride in its segment through the use of components that prevent tyre, wind and road noise from entering the cabin. Components such as noise-reducing outside rearview mirrors, acoustic laminated front glass and noise-absorption pads are strategically placed to make the cabin quiet and improve the overall quality inside.
The new Malibu features a fuel-efficient and powerful four cylinder engine that complements its European-inspired driving characteristics. The new Ecotec 1337082939427848700 2.4L dual overhead cam, four-cylinder engine with direct injection uses continuously variable valve timing to optimise performance, efficiency, and emissions. It produces 170 hp at 5,800 rpm and 230 Nm of torque at 4,600 rpm allowing it to reach 0-100 km/h in 10.2 seconds.
The 2.4L is mated to a Hydra-Matic 6T40 six-speed automatic with features designed to enhance powertrain efficiency.
The new Malibu’s solid body structure allows for precise tuning and dynamic vehicle control. Other systems contributing to its ride performance are a premium steering gear for smooth, precise responsiveness and on-centre feel, and a MacPherson strut front and four-link rear suspension.
Chassis control technologies include four-corner electronic stability control that incorporates full-function traction control, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist and corner brake control.
When it comes to safety features, the new Malibu is one of the best-equipped vehicles in the midsize segment. The new Malibu comes with an array of standard active and passive safety features. A total of six air bags 1337082939617849500 — dual-stage driver and front passenger air bags, driver and front side-impact air bags, and roof rail air bags — and dual pretensioners come standard. Rear park assist and a rearview camera are also available.
With the launch of the all-new 2013 Malibu, Chevrolet completes the transformation of its passenger car portfolio in the Middle East and across the globe. From the Spark in the mini segment to sports cars such as the Camaro, Chevrolet now has a comprehensive passenger car line-up that meets all customer needs across the Middle East.
