Hilt registered

Mon, 21 May 2012

MUSCAT — The Public Authority for Craft Industries (Paci) registered certificates for the depositing of different models of the hilt of the Omani Dagger (Khanjar). The move comes in a bid by Paci to protect the intellectual property of the Omani craft industries by developing certain mechanisms and criteria that ensure that the designs and innovated models of the Omani artefacts do not lose their authenticity.
The hilt, the most important component of the dagger, is made of different materials, depending on the traditions of handicrafts in a certain governorate of the Sultanate. By documenting the product, the Paci seeks to help use local raw material in making handicrafts. Earlier, the Paci registered a number of certificates of deposit for craft products, such as silver and copper items. — ONA
