OUTLOOK — By Ali Al Matani — Currently kidney transplantation in the Sultanate witnesses a good development that reflects the efforts exerted by the authorities concerned in explaining and establishing the importance of kidney donation through the relatives of patients, instead of transplanting the kidneys bought from abroad by some people due to the dangers associated with this matter.
These dangers could deteriorate the situation of patients, which in turn could lead to the failure of the surgical operation with its negative implications on the patient.
This also could increase the suffering of the patient on the one part and the burdens suffered by the health sector in the country on the other part.
Kidney transplantation embodies the culmination of altruism in humanity praised by Allah, the Exalted in verses of the Holy Quran And those who before them, had homes (in Medina) and had adopted the Faith ― show their affection to such as came to them for refuge, and entertain no desire in their hearts for things given to the (latter), but give them preference over themselves even though poverty was their (own lot). And those saved from the covetousness of their own souls, they are the ones that achieve prosperity. (Al-Hashr) “True are the words of Almighty God”
There are many times that altruism is praised in the Holy Quran and the blessed Sunnah. Man may donate his kidney to his relatives, loved people or the needy.
This is the height of human philanthropy that may be provided by any person for his father, mother, brother or sister. So why people abstain from donating their kidney though the donation and kidney transplantation operations are very simple.
Nowadays, there are more than 150 patients who underwent kidney transplantation operations in the Sultanate and are currently being followed by the respective authorities at the Ministry of Health. There are also more than 42 sites for donation and kidney dialysis in the Sultanate that are harnessed to serve the patients, treat them and follow-up with the donors.
We need to be convinced about the importance of donation and its humane role in saving the lives of our loved people.
Also, we need to believe that kidney transplantation in our country is better than buying and transplanting it from abroad due to the diseases and health problems that could be caused by buying and transplanting kidneys from abroad.
We hope that we would be more positive in dealing with our disease and donate kidneys or other organs, which guarantees the safety of transplantation procedures and the health follow-up of the donor and the patient at the same time. We should believe in the acts of God whether in our country or abroad.
