Majlis Ash’shura panels discuss draft laws

MUSCAT — Majlis Ash’shura’s Services and Local Communities Development Committee yesterday held its eighth regular meeting of the first annual sitting (2011-2012) of the seventh term of the Majlis, under the chairmanship of Hamid bin Ali al Nasseri, head of the Committee and in the presence of the committee’s members and staff.
The Committee reviewed the most important preparations of the Majlis to host Regional Municipalities and Water Resources Minister next week to deliver a statement to the Majlis. The Committee discussed the themes to be included in the forthcoming statement, which is divided into two main parts: regional municipalities sector which contains the ministry's plan for expansion of wastewater networks in the Sultanate’s wilayats, the conditions of the workers in them, the ministry's efforts in restoring public services to the areas affected by the rains and efforts in the field of public health.
The second theme is the water resources sector and contains the ministry’s plans to preserve water resources through maintenance and rehabilitation of aflaj (water streams) and constructing water dams in the various governorates and the efficiency of food and water laboratories and ways of developing them.
Meanwhile, the Majlis Ash’shura Health and Social Affairs committee held its eighth regular meeting of the first annual sitting (2011-2012) of the seventh term of the Majlis under the chairmanship of Ali bin Khalfan al Qutaiti Head of the Committee.
The Committee was briefed on its final report of Child Law draft referred by the Council of Ministers to Majlis Ash’shura in addition to the discussion of some items listed in the articles of the draft and review the most important amendments suggested by the committee. — ONA
